Legal dates
The Government of Quebec requires covered vehicles to use winter tires from December 1 through March 15. It also recommends waiting a few weeks after March 15 before installing summer or all-season tires because spring conditions can still vary.
Why book before the deadline?
One of the biggest fall mistakes our team sees is waiting for the first snow or the legal deadline. Tire-season appointment slots fill quickly. During peak season, calling about two weeks ahead is ideal.
Tread depth matters
The minimum tread-groove depth is 1.6 mm, but the Government of Quebec recommends at least 4.8 mm for winter conditions.
Quick Canadian quarter check
Place the caribou’s nose down into the groove. If the snout is visible, deep-snow grip will be poor. Check multiple areas of the tire.
